Deborah
Ayars - Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Professional
Engineer & Professional Planner

The founder of A-TECH Engineering, Debbie is the "Heart &
Soul" of the firm. Professionally, Debbie began her career in
the private sector as a civil engineer with Price Walker
Associates in Pleasantville, NJ. In her desire to expand her
knowledge base and gain more experience in the public sector, she
took a job with the City of Vineland serving as the Assistant City
Engineer. In 1983, she was named County Engineer in Cumberland
County, NJ – becoming the first, and after almost one quarter of
a century, still only female to serve as a County Engineer
anywhere in the State of New Jersey. In August, 1987, she founded
A-TECH Engineering, Inc, a full-service civil engineering,
surveying and planning firm, where she continues today as
President and CEO. The company, which began as a
sole-proprietorship operating out of her basement, has grown to a
multi-million dollar corporation employing over thirty people at
its peak. To assist her in managing a growing business, Debbie
earned a PhD in Business Administration from Kennedy Western
University in 2003.
In addition to numerous private clients, A-TECH’s clientele
includes various governmental agencies such as New Jersey Dept of
Transportation, the Delaware Dept of Transportation, the
Philadelphia Water Department, the Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey, the Delaware River Port Authority, the Delaware River
Bay Authority, the Cumberland County Utilities Authority, the
Atlantic County Utilities Authority, and the New Jersey Turnpike
Authority. Some notable engineering projects include services on
the Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, Ben Franklin, and Scudder’s
Falls bridges; the Newark International and Atlantic City
International Airports; the NJ Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway,
the Atlantic City and Schuylkill Expressways; the DRPA PATCO
Hi-Speed Line; and survey work at the World Trade Center site.
Debbie is well-known and well-respected as a Professional Engineer
and Planner throughout the State of New Jersey. She is also a
registered Professional Engineer in the State of Delaware.
Debbie’s commitment to her profession and community is
demonstrated by her long history of service and leadership to
professional and charitable organizations. Among her many
achievements she was a founding member of the Cumberland County
and Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, and served as
past-president of the Public Works Association of New Jersey where
she helped develop the Certified Public Works Manager Program and
helped to earn the first Technology Transfer (T2) grant for
Rutgers University. She currently serves as a committee member for
Rowan University Civil Engineering Program; is a member of the
property committee for the Vineland YMCA; is a member of the
Southern New Jersey Development Council, serves as Chairperson of
the Cape-Cumberland ELC (a grass-roots organization of the NJ
